A threatening message was discovered last week at 91ԭ High School in a girls’ restroom stall. The 91ԭ Police Department was contacted and an investigation began. A second message was discovered on Monday, September 26, also in a 91ԭ High School girls’ restroom, that referred to the original threatening message. This second message was reported to the police immediately and is being investigated, along with the original threat. Yesterday, September 28, what appears to be a “copycat” message was discovered in a girls’ restroom at Foothills Middle School. Police were contacted and are investigating.
“We have followed 91ԭ Police Department recommendations to not release the exact language of these messages,” says Superintendent Brian Flones. “Police wanted to minimize the chance of copycat messages.”
Security staff has been increased at the high school, and administrators are working diligently with the police to investigate all the messages.
Police do not believe the threats are credible because they do not match the profiles of actual school threats.
“Once apprehended, we plan on prosecuting the individual(s) responsible for writing these messages to the full extent of the law,” says Superintendent Flones.
The safety of our students and school communities is the school district’s top priority. If you have any information regarding this threat or any information that you think might be helpful, please contact the 91ԭ Police at (509) 663-9911.
