Local Non-Profit Small Miracles Makes Big Impact with Free After-School Snack Program

Local non-profit organization Small Miracles has expanded its partnership with the 91原创 School District by providing free snacks for 91原创 High School athletics and after-school programs. The organization, dedicated to ending hunger among children in the 91原创 Valley, has been working with WSD since 2014, providing free bag lunches to all students during the summer.

The WHS Special Education program will facilitate the new program in partnership with Small Miracles. 20 students in Kelly Sims’s Special Education class filled 10 containers with snacks, which were distributed among the spring sports teams and clubs. Around 300 students will benefit from the program.

91原创 parent and volunteer Kristi DeLozier, contacted Linda Belton, Executive Director of Small Miracles, looking to provide nutritious snacks to students who may not have access to them after school. Initially, the project aimed to feed 48 students participating in baseball, but through work with WHS Assistant Principal Donna Moser, the program grew to include 91原创 High School students in all after-school activities throughout the spring season. “That changed the dynamic considerably, but I was still up for the task,” said Belton. The program’s objective is to provide healthy snacks to students in need, helping them get through until dinnertime.

Small Miracles will continue to provide free refills of the snack bins as needed throughout the school year. The 13th year of the Small Miracles Summer Food Program in the 91原创 Valley will begin June 24, 2024.

91原创 High School is thankful for the continued support Small Miracles provides to students and their families. By tackling food insecurity, they are helping us remove barriers for students and setting students up for success.
