91ԭ�� School District, partnering with the 91ԭ�� Women’s Resource Center, received $72,000 in grant money from the Washington state Department of Commerce. The grant is intended to  improve the learning and housing stability of students who are homeless. A total of about $1.7 million was awarded to 26 organizations around the state.
 
91ԭ�� Schools’ Special Services program, under the direction of Bill Eagle, is the fiscal agent for the grant. “We’re excited to partner with a community resource like the Women’s Resource Center,” said Eagle. “Being able to work and partner with them in a small way to help connect youth and their families to that resource is what the grant’s about.”
 
The Women’s Resource Center will manage the housing situation for students and their families. Laurel Turner is Executive Director of the Women’s Resource Center and Jane Provo is the Deputy Director. “We are delighted to receive these funds, which will enable to assist the homeless children and families we serve,” said Provo.
 
Suzanne Stanton, homeless liaison for 91ԭ�� School District, co-wrote the grant with resource center staff. “It’s going to streamline the partnership we already have with the Women’s Resource Center,” said Stanton. “We’re excited that the state is giving us the opportunity to provide our students and their families with more resource support, especially during this housing crisis.”
 
In Washington state, about one public school student in 25 is homeless.
 
“We’re hoping this is the beginning of a partnership that will increase over the years,” said Eagle. “We have great need for homeless students in this area.”
