Valley Academy of Learning students visited local painter Jan Cook Mack's art studio to learn about the creative process from a professional artist. Mack's oil paintings and prints specializing in North Central Washington landscapes, orchards, fruit and wilderness scenes. Valley art educator Shawna Hawkins coordinated the trip for her middle school students with the help of a North Central Educational Foundation Teacher Classroom Grant. While at the studio students learned about Jan's career as a painter and her process for developing artwork. The students were able to apply what they learned by painting their own works of art using the same oil-based paints that Mack uses to for her pieces.
