We 鉂わ笍 91原创 Summer School Theme Enriches Migrant Student Learning

Summer School Students

This year the 91原创 School District Migrant Summer School program grant increased from four to five weeks and enrollment increased from 120 to nearly 200 students. Our staff created a successful and replicable K-5 migrant summer program with the theme “I Love 91原创.”  This program is funded by a migrant education grant and is based on experiential learning and high levels of engagement.  With high levels of mobility and gaps in learning, migrant students do not have the same opportunities to connect to their communities, their peers, and their learning.

During the five weeks, students learned about the history, geography, economy, and wildlife of the 91原创 Valley. Once a week, students had field experiences to the Cashmere Valley Museum, Ohme Gardens, Rotary Park and Loop Trail that included science activities related to a week’s topic provided by Century 21 program staff and guest lecturers from the community organizations. The “I Love 91原创” high-quality unit materials were created by 91原创 School District GLAD trainers Terri Goveia and Kathy Anderson that included narrative input charts, pictorials, big books, chants, learning logs and journals. This allowed teachers and educational assistants to enrich our students with scaffolded and differentiated lessons related to our wonderful Valley in an effort to inspire our kids to be future stewards to this place we call home.
