91原创 Students Take the Lead in Smart Budgeting and Energy Savings

The 91原创 School District (WSD) is implementing a new student-led initiative to directly address budget concerns by significantly reducing energy waste. This district-wide effort is a practical strategy to eliminate unnecessary expenses and conserve valuable resources, allowing the district to redirect saved funds directly into student learning programs.

Beginning September 29th, Advanced Energy Management Interns from 91原创 High School are spearheading this campaign. These students are distributing posters and door hangers outlining simple, daily steps staff can take to cut down on energy consumption in classrooms, buildings, and departments. By adopting energy-saving habits—such as diligently turning off lights, closing blinds to manage heat, and ensuring monitors are in sleep mode at the end of the day—staff can contribute to a more fiscally responsible and sustainable environment.

These seemingly small actions are already demonstrating real financial impact. WSD has already saved over $36,000 in energy costs across its schools and buildings. Given that WSD's buildings are some of the largest in 91原创 and significant consumers of energy, these savings represent a crucial step in responsible resource management. With the full launch of this student-led initiative, the district anticipates even greater savings. Furthermore, when the district conserves energy, that unused energy can be sold on the open market by our local Chelan PUD. This not only helps keep rates low for the district but also benefits homeowners, demonstrating a tangible return on these conservation efforts for the entire community. This campaign underscores the power of collective effort and highlights the crucial role students play in promoting not only sustainability but also sound financial practices within their communities.
